Beaverhead Brewing Dillon Montana
The phone rang with the question “Are you enjoying your beer at Beaverhead Brewing?” I quickly looked around the tap-room perplexed, looking for my dad. His voice was on the other end of the phone. He was of course not there, but he did have a very detailed itinerary that I had left with him, as I do before any trip I take. I leave the itinerary with him just in case I go missing. So far, so good. I have not gone missing and apparently I show up to where I am supposed to be at the time I scheduled myself to be.
I was on a return trip from Thanye Wyoming. Do not worry if you have never heard of Thanye. I had never heard of it either until I became smitten with Jovi, our little black and tan dog that we adopted earlier this year. Usually Boomer and I pass through Dillon late at night as there is not much in this part of Montana.
Passing through late at night has always prevented me from visiting Beaverhead Brewing in Dillon however. On this trip I was able to resolve that and made the drive into town to the brewery. I parked the car on a nearby street and rolled the dice on leaving Boomer and Jovi together in the car after only knowing each other for a few hours. I once left Boomer and my since passed away dog Buddy, together in the car, only to return with both dogs having blood on their faces. Luckily Boomer and Jovi did not repeat history.
Tap list at Beaverhead Brewing
Beaverhead Brewing is located in an awesome brick building that leads you into a wide open space inside with visibility in to the brewery. There were tables and seats all around but as usual I found myself a seat at the bar. It gives me a good view of the beer list, and we will pretend that is the real reason that I like to sit at the bar and not that I like to be as close to the tap as possible.
Beaverslide IPA
The first beer on my taste testing list was the Beaverslide IPA, a 6.7% Alcohol By Volume (ABV) and a 70 International Bittering Unit (IBU). This beer had a nice clear amber color with a little dash of a foamy head on it. This beer has some tasty hops used, nugget, chinook and centennial which gives it a flavorful citrus taste.
Maki’s Pale Ale
My next beer was the Maki’s Pale Ale. It has a 5.2% ABV and a 40 IBU. This beer had some toasty notes to it, perhaps I was picking it up from the malty caramel after coming down from the IPA I had just consumed. This beer was good, although my least favorite out of the three I had.
Drifted In Winter Ale
My last taste of the night was the Drifted In Winter Ale. This beer has a 6.9% ABV and a 40 IBU and has a stunning deep red color to it. I LOVED this beer. So much so that I took a growler home with me and shared it with my friend Jen. Jen apparently also loved this beer as she helped me polish off the growler the day I got home. Typically she is not a huge drinker. One to two beers and she is all set, but if she likes something, watch out!
The brewery does not have food but you can order in, which is always a nice benefit. Another nice benefit is their growler punch card system, buy eight growler fills and get your ninth one free. Although that would be quite the drive for me to take advantage of, it is a nice perk for the locals.
Speaking of the locals, I noticed something interesting about them. About 2 out of every 5 people who placed a beer order ordered the Whitetail Wit Bier. It is a Belgian Wit, or white beer, with a 5% ABV and a 18 IBU. This is not my favorite style of beer but it was obvious that people enjoyed this beer a lot.
The Beaverhead Brewery is located at 218 S Montana Street in Dillon Montana. They are open Monday – Friday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Sunday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. You probably noticed that there is a common theme of closing each day at 8:00 pm. It is not a coincidence, as all Montana breweries are required to stop selling beer at 8:00 pm unless they hold a liquor license, which most tap rooms do not.
